Preparation Steps
Step 1/6
Deseed the chilies, peel the shallots, garlic, and ginger. Blend chilies, shallots, garlic, ginger, and 1/4 cup water until it forms a paste.
Step 2/6
Heat 1/4 cup oil in a saucepan. Sautรฉ the paste for 5-7 minutes.
Step 3/6
Add 200ml water, 3 Tbsp sugar, juice of 1/2 lime, and some salt. Let it simmer on medium heat for 30 minutes or until thick and glossy.
Step 4/6
Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
Step 5/6
For Sambal Tempeh: Cube 200g tempeh and 1 red pepper. Fry in some oil until browned.
Step 6/6
Add 2 Tsp Sambal and 2 Tsp soy sauce. Toss around and serve with rice.
