Preparation Steps
Step 1/12
Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper and set them aside.
Step 2/12
Add 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon corn syrup, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon almond extract to the mixing bowl.
Step 3/12
Mix the icing ingredients until evenly combined and smooth.
Step 4/12
Add water 1/2 tablespoon at a time, mixing well after each addition until the icing is smooth, thick, pipeable, and holds its shape.
Step 5/12
Divide the icing into three portions, leaving one portion white.
Step 6/12
Mix red gel food coloring into one icing portion until it is a vivid red color.
Step 7/12
Mix blue gel food coloring into another icing portion until it is a vivid blue color.
Step 8/12
Transfer the red, white, and blue icings into separate piping bags fitted with small round piping tips.
Step 9/12
Pipe thin, straight lines close together across the lined baking sheets until all icing is used.
Step 10/12
Leave the piped icing at room temperature until completely dry and firm, about 8 to 12 hours.
Step 11/12
Break or chop the dried colored icing lines into sprinkle-sized pieces using a bench scraper.
Step 12/12
Mix the finished sprinkles together and store them in an airtight container.
