Preparation Steps
Step 1/21
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a large baking dish.
Step 2/21
Place the milk, chicken broth, Vegeta seasoning, bay leaves, thyme, black pepper, chicken, and bell peppers in the large saucepan.
Step 3/21
Bring the saucepan just to a simmer over low heat. Simmer for 15 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the peppers are tender.
Step 4/21
Remove the chicken and bell peppers from the poaching liquid. Reserve all of the cooking liquid and discard the bay leaves.
Step 5/21
Shred the cooked chicken into bite-size pieces using two forks. Set the shredded chicken aside.
Step 6/21
Heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil in the large skillet over high heat. Add half of the bell peppers and half of the garlic.
Step 7/21
Season the peppers with half of the salt and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, then transfer the peppers to a plate.
Step 8/21
Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil in the skillet. Cook the remaining bell peppers and garlic for 5 minutes with the remaining salt and pepper.
Step 9/21
Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in the large skillet over medium heat. Add the remaining garlic and stir until lightly golden.
Step 10/21
Add the all-purpose flour to the melted butter. Stir constantly for 1 minute to form a smooth roux.
Step 11/21
Gradually whisk 2 cups of reserved poaching liquid into the roux. Continue whisking until the mixture forms a thick, smooth paste.
Step 12/21
Whisk in 1 more cup of reserved poaching liquid. Add the remaining liquid gradually and whisk until fully smooth.
Step 13/21
Stir the sauce constantly for 1 to 2 minutes until thickened. Remove the skillet from the heat.
Step 14/21
Stir the shredded cheddar cheese into the hot sauce until melted. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
Step 15/21
Transfer 2 1/2 cups of white sauce to a bowl for the topping. Stir the shredded chicken and cooked bell peppers into the remaining sauce.
Step 16/21
Spread a thin layer of chicken sauce over the base of the baking dish. Cover it with a layer of fresh lasagna sheets.
Step 17/21
Spread half of the chicken mixture over the lasagna sheets. Add another layer of fresh lasagna sheets.
Step 18/21
Spread the remaining chicken mixture over the sheets. Cover with a final layer of fresh lasagna sheets.
Step 19/21
Pour the reserved white sauce evenly over the final pasta layer. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly on top.
Step 20/21
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Step 21/21
Rest the lasagna for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve warm.
