Preparation Steps
Step 1/9
Cut 500 g lamb into bite-size pieces and dice the optional 150 g African eggplant and 150 g fresh tomato.
Step 2/9
Heat 30 ml neutral cooking oil in a large pot over medium heat and brown the lamb for 5 to 7 minutes.

Add 1 tablespoon soumbala powder and 1 tablespoon chili powder, then stir for 1 minute to toast the seasonings.

Pour in 1.5 l water and bring the pot to a boil.

Whisk 60 g dried jute leaf powder with a ladleful of hot broth in a bowl until smooth.

Stir the jute leaf mixture into the pot and add the optional African eggplant and fresh tomato.

Season with 5 g salt and 1 g black pepper, then stir thoroughly.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for about 75 minutes until the meat is tender and the sauce is thick and silky.

Taste the Fakoye and adjust salt or chili powder before serving hot.
