Preparation Steps
Step 1/10
Trim the crusts from 10 white bread slices and crumble the soft bread into small pieces in a mixing bowl.
Step 2/10
Pour 100 ml whole milk over the crumbled bread and mix until the bread absorbs the milk.
Step 3/10
Add 1 tsp ghee and 1 tsp milk powder, then knead until a smooth, soft dough forms.
Step 4/10
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a smooth medium-sized ball without cracks.
Step 5/10
Combine 200 g granulated sugar and 360 ml water in a saucepan, then heat until the sugar dissolves.
Step 6/10
Stir in 1/4 tsp ground cardamom and 1/2 tsp rose water, then boil the syrup for a few seconds until slightly sticky.
Step 7/10
Turn off the heat and keep the sugar syrup warm while frying the dough balls.
Step 8/10
Heat enough ghee for deep-frying over low heat and fry the dough balls, turning gently, until evenly deep golden brown.
Step 9/10
Transfer the fried gulab jamun directly into the warm sugar syrup and keep them fully submerged.
Step 10/10
Soak the gulab jamun in the syrup for at least 120 minutes before serving.
